Coffee tables by shape

Round and oval tops soften the outline of a seating area, while rectangular tables can follow a longer sofa. Compare the full footprint with the gaps between your seats. The most useful shape is the one that leaves room to move and reach the surface comfortably.

Wood and stone coffee tables

Wood, marble, travertine and concrete finishes create different surfaces and constructions. Check whether a wood top is solid timber or veneer and whether a stone-look finish is natural stone or another material. Care instructions depend on the exact finish.

Choosing coffee table height and size

Compare tabletop height with your sofa’s seat height and the distance you reach when seated. Mark out the table on the floor to check circulation. If you need storage, look for an explicitly described shelf or compartment rather than assuming it is included.

Pairing coffee and side tables

Matching every surface is optional. A smaller side table can serve a chair outside the main seating group, while a coffee table serves the sofa. Check both pieces’ dimensions before combining them.
